Position Overview Primary Purpose of PositionThe Assistant Director of Student Staff Development, Training, and Selection provides strategic leadership for department-wide student staff talent practices while supervising an assigned portfolio of Residence Hall Directors and/or Graduate Assistants. The position designs consistent and equitable systems for recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, ongoing development, and retention of residential student staff.
The Assistant Director is a full-time, live-in, twelve-month professional and a key educator within the Division of Student Affairs. The position advances student learning, belonging, wellbeing, safety, and accountability through staff leadership, responsive operations, and educational student conduct practices.
As a designated conduct officer for Housing and Residence Life, the Assistant Director hears and adjudicates assigned student behavior cases and works within the department’s centralized case‑assignment and consultation structure.
Primary Function of Organizational UnitThe primary purpose of the Housing and Residence Life department is to provide housing accommodation and a certain quality of life for over 6500 students. To provide living accommodations which are clean, safe, healthy, and comfortable while enhancing a certain quality of life, which supports the academic mission of North Carolina A&T State University. The Residence Life program is designed to provide an environment which supports students in their academic pursuits, encourages interpersonal development, and offers opportunities for individual growth and challenge.
To provide a quality of life for on campus students through a clean, safe, educational environment. Responsible for the overall leadership and management of all residence halls, the assignments of rooms, occupancy status of halls, housekeeping needs, maintenance concerns, and budgets, including operating and programming.
- Master’s degree completed or in progress in higher education administration, college student personnel, counseling, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant leadership experience may be considered.
- Three to four years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs, housing and residence life, student conduct, or a closely related setting.
- Demonstrated experience supervising, coaching, or leading professional, graduate, or paraprofessional staff.
