Executive Director, Community Impact Works Reports  to:
Chief Executive Officer

Jeffrey Michael Capital recently launched Community Impact Works, a Detroit-first initiative focused on helping funders, nonprofits, businesses, and mission-driven organizations strengthen the operating capabilities that turn investment and opportunity into sustainable results.

We are looking for an entrepreneurial executive to work directly alongside JMC's CEO to continue developing, growing, and leading the initiative.

Community Impact Works is already in market. The strategy, positioning, operating direction, and foundation are in place. The next stage is focused on expanding relationships, developing funded and commercial opportunities, leading engagements, strengthening delivery, and continuing to build a sustainable business around the work.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on executive role for someone who understands both impact and business.

The Executive Director will help lead business development, partnerships, stakeholder relationships, organizational improvement, engagement development, execution, and the continued growth of Community Impact Works.

The right person will be comfortable working with funders, foundations, nonprofit leaders, economic-development organizations, corporate partners, entrepreneurs, and business owners while also understanding the operational realities inside the organizations those stakeholders are working to strengthen.

This role requires someone who can build trusted relationships, recognize where operating challenges are limiting performance, turn those challenges into focused engagements, and stay involved through implementation and improvement.

What You Will Help Lead
  • Build and strengthen relationships with funders, foundations, nonprofits, businesses, economic-development organizations, corporate partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Identify and develop commercial, partnership, grant-funded, and institutional engagement opportunities.
  • Assess organizational and operational challenges and determine where Community Impact Works can create meaningful value.
  • Develop and lead engagements from opportunity identification through implementation and follow-through.
  • Help organizations strengthen operating discipline, leadership capacity, financial visibility, accountability, workflow, and execution.
  • Coordinate JMC executives, advisors, and specialized resources based on the needs of each engagement.
  • Continue developing the Community Impact Works delivery model, processes, partnerships, and market presence.
  • Help build sustainable revenue and funding sources that support the continued growth of the initiative.
What We Are Looking For

We are looking for an experienced executive operator and relationship builder with strong business judgment and the ability to move from strategy into execution.

Strong candidates will bring:

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in operations, organizational performance, business growth, economic development, nonprofit leadership, consulting, advisory services, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing organizational or operational improvement.
  • Strong executive relationship-building and business-development capability.
  • Experience developing partnerships, funded initiatives, client engagements, or new revenue opportunities.
  • Strong financial and business acumen.
  • Experience leading people, priorities, projects, partnerships, or complex engagements.
  • The ability to identify underlying operating issues and translate them into practical action.
  • Comfort working across both commercial and mission-driven environments.
  • Strong judgment, accountability, initiative, and follow-through.
  • A builder mentality and genuine interest in helping shape what Community Impact Works becomes.

Experience with in Detroit or Southeast Michigan's business, philanthropic, nonprofit, civic, entrepreneurial, or economic-development ecosystem is strongly preferred, but we are not looking for one specific background or résumé.

We are looking for the right combination of operating capability, relationships, credibility, judgment, and entrepreneurial drive.

How We Work Together

This is not a role where everything has already been built and you are being asked simply to maintain it. It is also not a blank-sheet startup where you are expected to build alone.

You will work directly with an active CEO to continue developing the model, creating opportunities, leading engagements, and growing the initiative, with increasing…
