At Wabash, Welders perform a variety of tasks that vary by location. Welders have a key role in the manufacture of carbon, stainless steel, and aluminum products and subassemblies. Welders are expected to produce high‑quality work while upholding production standards. Weld Tests and, in some cases, Certification Tests are required. Applicants that do not pass the initial Weld Test can be trained in our in‑house Weld School.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Own and help improve safety, quality, and delivery performance.
- Weld carbon steel, aluminum, or stainless steel using MIG and/or TIG to meet quality standards.
- Read engineering prints and weld symbols, and follow specifications.
- Perform basic operator preventive maintenance on welding equipment.
- Manipulate in tight and small spaces.
- Work at heights of 15–20 feet.
- Complete additional tasks assigned by the supervisor or team leader.
- Wear approved personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Adhere to safety policies and practices.
- Oxy/Acetylene Torch
- Engineering Prints and Work Instructions
- Handheld Tools (tape measure, hammer, etc.)
- Hoist, Crane, and other lifting devices
- MIG Welder (GMAW, including Pulse Transfer)
- TIG Welder (GTAW)
- Possible limited Stick Welder (SMAW)
- Plasma Cutter / Gouging
- Grinder / Sander
- Respirator (ADF or PAPR Hood)
- Pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
- Pass weld tests associated with the product line before welding in production.
- Pass respirator fit test.
- Basic reading, writing, math, and verbal skills.
- Capable of following and understanding engineering prints, specifications, and instructions.
Experience and education are a plus; however, training is provided for all welding positions. Orientation and several days of training prepare you for the production floor.

The work environment includes exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. The employee must wear necessary PPE. The job requires standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, lifting objects up to 50 pounds, and full range of motion in arms and hands.
