At Para la Naturaleza, a nonprofit environmental organization based in Puerto Rico, we believe that conservation begins with people. We are seeking a passionate and community-oriented professional to join our team at Hacienda Buena Vista Natural Protected Area (Ponce, PR) to help strengthen the connection between communities, people, and Puerto Rico’s natural and cultural heritage.

The Environmental Interpreter works directly with communities, visitors, volunteers, schools, and partner organizations to promote meaningful participation in conservation. Through community engagement, environmental education, interpretive experiences, and volunteer initiatives, this position helps build relationships and creates opportunities for people to become active participants in the conservation of Puerto Rico’s natural and cultural resources.

This is a regular, full-time position
. The position requires availability to work Wednesday through Sunday, including weekends and holidays, as well as outdoors and in different environmental conditions. Travel and extended hours may be required according to program needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with local communities, schools, volunteers, nonprofit organizations, and other community partners.
  • Support and facilitate community-based initiatives that encourage participation in conservation and environmental stewardship.
  • Develop and facilitate interpretive tours, educational activities, workshops, community meetings, presentations, and volunteer experiences.
  • Engage diverse audiences and create opportunities for dialogue, learning, and participation.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of environmental education, community engagement, and volunteer activities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support conservation and community initiatives.

General Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Natural Sciences, Geography, Agronomy, History, Education, Social Sciences, Community Development, Environmental Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in community engagement, community development, environmental education, environmental interpretation, outreach, volunteer coordination, education, or related work.
  • Experience working with communities, schools, nonprofit organizations, volunteers, or diverse public audiences.
  • Experience facilitating or supporting community meetings, workshops, educational activities, presentations, tours, volunteer initiatives, or similar group experiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills, including the ability to build relationships, listen to different perspectives, facilitate dialogue, and engage diverse audiences.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, with strong verbal, written, and reading comprehension skills in both languages.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook.
  • Availability to work Wednesday through Sunday, including weekends and holidays, and to work outdoors regularly in different environmental conditions and terrain.
  • Valid Puerto Rico Driver’s License and ability to operate organizational vehicles as required.
