The Breeder Ranch Manager is responsible for overseeing all farm operations, including ensuring birds are raised in accordance with company policies and standards, and that eggs are gathered and handled properly to support optimum hatchability and production..
Job Duties / Responsibilities- Direct the ranch team, with the assistance of the Assistant Ranch Manager and any Leads, to perform the following tasks:
- Monitor and adjust chicken house environmental conditions to support bird health and production.
- Ensure the proper collection, handling, and storage of eggs to maintain quality and optimum hatchability.
- Collect and properly dispose of daily mortality in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Operate tractors and other equipment for chicken house cleaning and general farm maintenance.
- Assist with the setup, placement, and movement of birds.
- Prepare birds for shipment and coordinate ship-out activities.
- Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and biosecurity requirements.
- Coordinate and direct farm labor activities to support daily operations.
- While the Ranch Manager’s primary role is to supervise and direct the team, he or she may be expected to perform some or all of the above tasks based on experience, maintenance needs, egg production volume, staffing/absenteeism, and when the ranch receives a new flock or transports spent hens.
- Maintain effective communication with company management and other departments regarding farm operations and production needs..
- Assist the Field Supervisor with hiring, promotions, discipline, terminations, and transfers of team members within the operation, and communicate policy violations to the Field Supervisor so that appropriate corrective action can follow.
- Minimum one (1) year of poultry production, agriculture, livestock, or farm management experience.
- Strong leadership, supervisory, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Basic computer and recordkeeping skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Poultry management or breeder experience.
- Mechanical aptitude and farm equipment operation experience.
- Knowledge of animal welfare, biosecurity, and environmental compliance practices.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and farm environments.
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work around live poultry, dust, noise, and farm equipment.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules as needed.
