Build a Legacy. Keep Legendary Machines Running.

Since 1833, Cooper Machinery Services has built the engines and compressors that power the world's energy. Today, more than 22,000 units in our installed base depend on skilled hands to keep them running. As a Downstream Mechanic III, you'll be the expert those machines and our customers count on. You'll diagnose the toughest failures, lead overhauls on legendary Cooper-Bessemer™, Ajax™, and Superior™ platforms (and non-OEM equipment too), and help set the standard for craftsmanship in our Deer Park shop.

You'll work with minimal supervision, mentor the people around you, and own your work from teardown to final inspection.

If you take pride in solving problems others can't, this is where your skills count.

What You Will Do

  • Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis on recurring failures in reciprocating engines, compressors, pumps, and associated components
  • Diagnose wear, damage, and failure modes on reciprocating compressors across Cooper OEM and non-OEM platforms
  • Overhaul compressors and support upgrade projects that extend equipment life and improve performance
  • Use precision measurement tools to support inspection and diagnostics
  • Maintain and repair compressor valves, spark plugs, auxiliary cooling and lubrication systems, and pumps
  • Perform and accurately document regulatory-required inspections, following company and industry procedures
  • Complete timesheets, SAP orders, safe job plans/work permits, and regulatory reports; write technical reports and present findings to managers and plant personnel
  • Provide informal leadership and coaching to teammates, and oversee specialty contractors (QA/QC) as needed
  • Work within our Safety tenets and Stop Work Authority, and keep the shop clean, safe, and organized
  • Participate in training programs, risk management reviews, and safety meetings

Who You Are

  • High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent related work experience)
  • 5–8 years of progressive experience in mechanical maintenance and repair of compressors and pumps
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills, with the ability to execute overhaul, diagnostic, and upgrade-support work independently
  • Developing proficiency with precision measurement tooling
  • A sense of ownership and accountability for the quality of your work
  • Able to read and understand technical procedures and governmental regulations
  • Able to work safely around rotating or moving equipment and wear required PPE
  • Able to work extended hours, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as shop schedules require
  • Able to lift and transport up to 50 lbs, push/pull up to 100 lbs, climb stairs and ladders (including A-frame), and walk, stand, stoop, squat, kneel, and crouch for up to 30 minutes
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred

  • 2+ years of experience in operations or service center applications
  • 3+ years of oil and gas operations experience specializing in mechanical maintenance
  • Experience with Cooper OEM and/or non-OEM reciprocating compressor platforms

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Company-paid life, AD&D, short-term, and long-term disability coverage (6-month short-term disability waiting period)
  • Voluntary life, AD&D, and long-term disability buy-up plan
  • Voluntary benefit plans including accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity insurance
