CVOEO is hiring Per Diem Shelter Advocates for CVOEO’s Emergency Services Network who will provide direct support and advocacy for individuals experiencing homelessness who are residing in a CVOEO operated shelter. The position provides shelter shift coverage (as available) in a trauma-informed, client-centered environment. CVOEO operates a wide array of shelters including low-barriers, recovery, for families, and people fleeing domestic and/or sexual violence.
- Provide coverage for various shifts within CVOEO’s shelter network, as available.
- Provide direct housing advocacy to guests residing in the CVOEO shelter network, emphasizing stability and self-sufficiency.
- Support recovery-oriented services by connecting guests with mental health, substance use, and peer support programs, in collaboration with Housing Advocate and/or Director.
- Monitor and assist guests in maintaining compliance with shelter policies and may provide support related to recovery program requirements, guidance on relapse prevention, safety planning, supervision of children, and/or wellness strategies.
- Conduct crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed, ensuring guest safety and well-being.
- Coordinate closely with shelter staff, peer support specialists, and recovery coaches to ensure a holistic, integrated approach to guest care.
Rate of pay: $33.15 per hour

Per Diem Shelter Advocate
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Counseling, Public Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred) or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in housing advocacy, homelessness services, recovery housing, and/or behavioral health.
- Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
- Strong knowledge of the causes and effects of homelessness, affordable housing, poverty, economic justice and multiple oppress ions affecting economically vulnerable groups.
- Experience with trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles.
- Willingness to work flexible schedule and respond to per diem shift availability on short notice.
- Valid license, clean driving record, access to reliable transportation required and willingness and ability to travel within the CVOEO service area.
- Ability to uphold safety standards and have thorough understanding of CVOEO’s shelter policies and procedures, crisis management, and understanding of how to respond in the event of an emergency.
