Overview
The Group Exercise Instructor will lead members in a structured group environment, providing instruction to enhance overall fitness, strength, and endurance while ensuring safety. The instructor also serves as a resource to educate members on various aspects of fitness.
Pre-Class Preparation- Arrive 10‑15 minutes before class to set up and greet members.
- Interact with participants, answer questions, and assess fitness progress.
- Introduce and orient new participants to the class format.
- Know participants individually and understand their fitness capabilities.
- Wear appropriate fitness attire, preferably Gold’s Gym branded gear, and proper footwear.
- Prepare music for the class, avoiding tracks with offensive language.
- Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly and microphones are ready.
- Introduce yourself and outline the class format.
- Assess first‑time participants’ fitness level privately.
- Deliver clear verbal instructions and maintain an appropriate music volume and tempo.
- Continuously monitor participants for correct form and offer variations to accommodate all fitness levels.
- Create a motivational and fun environment for all participants.
- Remove music and return the microphone to its proper place.
- Ensure the room is organized for the next class.
- Answer any questions or concerns participants may have.
- Solicit feedback from participants about the class.
- Begin and end the class on time, adjusting flow to adhere to the schedule.
- Follow proper closing procedures for the last class of the day, as outlined by the Group Exercise Director.
- Find a qualified substitute and notify the Group Exercise Director if unable to fulfill a scheduled class.
- Maintain dependable and consistent class schedules with rare substitutions or cancellations.
- Attend all required staff meetings.
- Follow proper time recording procedures promptly and accurately.
- Prepare incident and witness reports as necessary in the event of accidents.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude toward responsibilities, fellow employees, and members.
- Promote Gold’s Gym and GGX whenever possible.
- At least six months teaching in a group exercise format.
- Knowledge of safe exercise technique and group exercise principles.
- Knowledge of basic physiology and body mechanics.
- Ability to perform a variety of exercise routines.
- Positive and effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio equipment.
- Specialized skills (Yoga, Pilates, Body Pump, Body Attack, etc.) require verifiable proof of education.
- Group fitness certification by ACE, AFAA, or ACSM.
- Current CPR certification and basic first aid training.
- Physical demands include, but are not limited to, the ability to lift light weights, bend, squat, jump, run, reach, walk, hop, spin, and kick.
