Biometric (Fingerprinting) Technician – On Call
This is an opportunity to work with the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) in meeting the mission of administering the nation’s lawful immigration system. The hourly rate is $18.85 per hour (hourly rate set by SCA). This position is an on‑call (casual) team member located in Grand Rapids, MI.
On‑call employees are expected to be available five days a week, Monday through Friday, from 7:45 am to 4:15 pm for substitute coverage as needed. Hours are on an “as needed” basis, so a steady income stream cannot be guaranteed.
Primary Responsibilities- Complete biometrics registration for applicants seeking legal immigration to the United States.
- Ensure all who enter the Application Support Center (ASC) are approved applicants and visitors while providing interior and exterior crowd control and assisting staff in enforcing rules and policies.
- Provide front‑line customer service as representatives of Amentum and on behalf of the United States Government.
- Perform quality biometrics processing, including capturing electronic fingerprints, photographs, and signatures within established processing times.
- Screen applicants entering the facility to ensure a valid appointment notice and identification.
- Utilize crowd‑control barriers to ensure a safe and organized entry into the facility.
- Visually inspect applicants and their belongings prior to allowing entry; conduct periodic facility checks and report concerns to the Site Supervisor.
- Assist the Site Supervisor and/or government Immigration Service Officer in calling local law enforcement or first responders when necessary.
- Manage and complete administrative paperwork, including tracking processing times, reconciling captured biometrics, maintaining a visitor control log, and signing off on facility checks.
- United States citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency in speaking and writing English.
- Ability to stand upright on one’s feet for the scheduled shift duration, excluding meals and breaks.
- Ability to hold and grasp applicant’s hands to obtain quality fingerprints.
- Ability to work in a high‑paced environment with the public.
- Basic computer typing and skills.
- Successful completion of biometric training and certification within sixty days.
- Ability to speak a foreign language.
