The San Antonio District is hiring a Construction Inspector I or II for our Kerrville Area Office, overseeing roadway construction projects across Kerr, Kendall, Bandera, and Uvalde counties. In this role you’ll be on the front lines of construction activity, monitoring work to ensure projects meet plans, specifications, and quality standards that keep the traveling public safe.

Job Responsibilities Construction Inspector I Responsibilities
  • Attend pre‑construction meetings and answer questions from contractors and other attendees.
  • Calculate payments due contractors for work completed.
  • Ensure contractors build roadways, bridges and related highway structures and airport improvements in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Move equipment, tools, materials and products.
  • Monitor project phasing and traffic control plans or airport closure plans, ensuring compliance with approved safety standards; inspect barricades and, as required, move traffic control devices and barricades.
  • Observe and inspect ongoing construction work.
  • Prepare monthly and final estimates.
  • Resolve differences in interpretation of plans and specifications.
  • Ensure fabricators build and repair bridges and related non‑bridge highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Document work progress and issues arising throughout the scope of the project.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Construction Inspector II Additional Responsibilities
  • Consult with Project Engineers, resident project representatives and contractors’ superintendents on work progress and construction problems; review equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.
  • Coordinate communication between district/division/Department of Public Safety and other external entities.
  • Ensure adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects; ensure material tests are performed and materials meet required standards.
  • Prepare monthly and final estimates.
  • Resolve differences in interpretation of plans and specifications.
  • Serve as a lead worker or project leader.
Minimum Qualifications All Levels
  • Education:

    High School Graduate or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience
  • Construction Inspector I:
    None required.
  • Construction Inspector II: 1 year of experience in construction inspection, engineering support, maintenance and repairs, materials or process inspection; or transportation engineering support related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year‑per‑year basis.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
