Position: Engineering Research Work Study

Summary Of Responsibilities

The OER Intern will play a critical role in the library's partnership with the HSI STEM - Project HOPE initiative. This high-impact position is designed for an Engineering student to leverage their subject expertise in the critical identification, evaluation, and curation of high-quality, free-to-use Open Educational Resources (OER) for Engineering courses. The successful intern will work closely with the Library Director and the HSI STEM Grant Director and will gain expertise in resource discovery and intellectual property/licensing in an academic context.

Essential

Functions
  • Search various online platforms (Merlot, Mason OER Meta finder, OER Commons, Open Stax, OASIS, National Science Digital Library, etc.) to locate OER textbooks.
  • Search online platforms such as You Tube and TED Talks with Creative Commons Licenses to locate videos that could supplement classroom instruction.
  • Search for podcasts that could supplement instruction in an engineering course.
  • Recognize the different learning styles and student preferences.
  • Search the Directory of Open Access Journals to find openly licensed journal articles that could be used in an engineering course.
  • Make recommendations to professors.
Additional Required Expectations
  • Assist with other library tasks as needed.
Education, Experience And Skills Required
  • Enrolled as a full‑time student at Schreiner University.
  • Background in engineering, preferably an upper‑level student.
  • General knowledge of the library's services, spaces, and collections.
  • Familiarity with modern web platforms such as Content Management Systems (CMS).
  • Experience with searching online platforms and basic research skills.
