Job SummaryThe Psychologist III (Forensic Evaluator) performs advanced psychological work, including 46B, Chapter 55 competency evaluations, violence risk assessments (46C), and forensic psychological assessments for patients. The role involves designing, conducting, and coordinating forensic programs, providing training and testimony, supervising staff, and collaborating across disciplines to develop comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation plans.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct 46B, 46C, and Chapter 55 competency evaluations and violence risk assessments.
- Develop, support, and coordinate forensic psychological activities and programs.
- Provide training, consultation, and expert testimony to legal and clinical teams.
- Supervise graduate psychology trainees and other staff as required.
- Maintain thorough documentation and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Participate in disaster response, continuity of operations, and other agency obligations.
- Attend work regularly, adapt to specific or rotating shift schedules, extended shift, and overtime as needed.
- Provide hospital administration with consultation on forensic evaluations, competency restoration, and safe community discharge planning.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation plans.
- Develop and implement procedures to ensure timely completion, documentation, and communication of forensic evaluations to courts.
- Coach and train forensic evaluators to maintain professional competency.
- Offer specialized forensic services, conduct risk assessments, administer assessments (e.g., MMPI, HCR‑20, VRAG, TOMM), and provide psychotherapy as needed.
- Support recovery‑focused care, reduce restraints, and promote trauma‑informed principles.
- Provide expert testimony and consultation to courts and community stakeholders.
- Extensive knowledge of forensic psychological assessment and treatment for the seriously mentally ill forensic populations.
- Proficiency in psychotherapy modalities: CBT, DBT, behavior therapy, and other empirically‑supported therapies.
- Skill in using psychological instruments (MMPI, HCR‑20, VRAG, TOMM, MFAST, SIRS) for assessments.
- Able to conduct comprehensive forensic and psychological assessments and produce clear, concise reports.
- Capability to provide expert testimony to courts regarding assessments.
- Strong communication skills with team members, courts, and patients.
- Ability to supervise and train others; function as a member of the psychology management team.
- Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation and computer use.
Must be licensed as a Psychologist by the State of Texas or an equivalent reciprocity state.
Initial Screening Criteria- Doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited college/university.
- At least one year of supervised experience in conducting forensic and standard psychological assessments, including reports, in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
- At least one year of experience providing individual and group psychotherapy to forensic populations in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
- Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE).
- Minimum age: 18 years for state‑operated facilities; 21 years for Waco Center for Youth applicants.
- Flexibility in work hours may be required; overtime and extended hours possible.
- Compliance with HHSC immunization policy and state hospital operating procedures related to immunizations is required.
