Overview

Long Term Care Registered Nurse – Kerrville, TX. Contract Contingent position performed at Kerrville VA Medical Center - 3600 Memorial Blvd, Kerrville, TX 78028. The engagement supports The Veterans Integrated Services Network 17 (VISN 17) and expanded operations to restore pre-Pandemic healthcare services.

Contract:

Contingent position with responsibilities to support seven healthcare systems as part of VISN 17 operations. Training will be provided if needed.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate proficiency using the nursing process in providing care for clients with chronic conditions, rehabilitation, wound care and dementia populations.
  • Participate and collaborate in interdisciplinary care meetings and provide patient and family teaching.
  • Apply the nursing process to systems or processes at the unit/team/work group level to improve care.
  • Identify potential client problems and take appropriate nursing measures to intervene, including addressing ethical issues.
  • Function effectively in a team leader/leadership role and use team approaches to identify, analyze and resolve problems.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the delivery of client care in alignment with accrediting/regulatory bodies, the VA, and Nursing Service mission, philosophy, goals, and standards.
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively with clients, families, and staff, and with members of other services.
  • Act to avert or manage situations to meet client needs in a safe/therapeutic manner.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills and tact in dealing with patients, families and staff.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in keyboarding and basic computer operations.
  • Possess the physical capabilities to initiate crisis intervention measures and to perform nursing care in emergencies.

Additional duties may be assigned. Training will be provided if needed.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from ACEN- or CCNE-accredited program.

Licensure: Registered Nurse with current Texas state license including BLS and ACLS certifications.

Experience:

  • Proficiency in nursing care for clients with chronic conditions, rehabilitation, wound care and dementia populations.
  • Interdisciplinary care participation and patient/family teaching.
  • Ability to apply the nursing process to unit/team/work group level improvements.
  • Ability to identify problems and intervene appropriately, including ethical considerations.
  • Experience in team leadership and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate client care per accreditation, VA, and Nursing Service standards.
  • Effective communication with clients, families and staff.
  • Ability to work with other services and teams to ensure safe and therapeutic care.
