General Manager

Luxury Spa Hotel | Lake District

JWR is proud to be partnering with a respected, family-owned hospitality group to appoint a General Manager for one of the UK’s most iconic luxury spa hotels, set within a spectacular Lake District location.

This flagship property is a high-performing, multi-faceted operation comprising over 80 bedrooms, multiple dining outlets, an award-winning spa, and a well-established weddings and events business. The hotel is supported by a team of more than 120 colleagues and benefits from strong central infrastructure across HR, Finance, Marketing, Revenue, and Central Reservations.

Following the internal promotion of the current General Manager, who has successfully led the business since 2020, this appointment represents a rare opportunity to inherit a stable, thriving operation while shaping its next phase of growth, refinement, and profile elevation.

Package
  • Salary up to £75k DOE
  • Performance-related bonus
  • Discounts across the group
The Role

As General Manager, you will be the figurehead of the hotel, responsible for setting the tone, driving performance, and delivering exceptional guest experiences across all areas of the business.

Balancing strategic leadership with visible, hands‑on involvement, you will have full accountability for commercial performance, team engagement, and operational excellence. The role offers genuine autonomy within an agile, values-led organisation, alongside meaningful support from group leadership and central specialist teams.

This is a role for a confident, credible leader who enjoys being present in the business, empowering others, and making a tangible impact.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the overall operation of the hotel, spa, and food and beverage departments, ensuring alignment and excellence throughout
  • Take full financial ownership, including budgeting, forecasting, P&L performance, and cost control
  • Develop and deliver commercial initiatives across spa, weddings and events, dining, and seasonal campaigns
  • Support and challenge departmental leaders to execute effective marketing and revenue strategies
  • Monitor guest feedback and reputation metrics, driving continuous improvement and service consistency
  • Embed quality assurance systems and maintain high operational standards
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing senior leadership team
  • Drive innovation in wellness, sustainability, and guest experience
  • Act as a professional ambassador for the hotel within the local community and wider hospitality industry
  • Ensure full compliance with all licensing, health and safety, and environmental regulations
About You

This opportunity would suit an established General Manager or a strong Deputy General Manager ready to step into a flagship leadership role. It may also appeal to a senior hospitality professional seeking greater autonomy and a more values-driven environment.

  • Minimum five years’ experience in senior hotel leadership, ideally within a luxury, resort, or high-volume setting
  • Proven commercial and financial acumen, with experience managing complex P&L structures
  • A natural, people-first leadership style; visible, approachable, and hands‑on when required
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire confidence and loyalty across large teams
  • Passion for hospitality and delivering memorable guest experiences
  • Comfortable acting as a credible figurehead with guests, owners, and external stakeholders
  • Experience or understanding of spa operations and weddings or events is highly desirable
