Honister Slate Mine is the last working slate mine in England, with a heritage of traditional stone craftsmanship that stretches back centuries. We produce slate for high-end residential and commercial projects, using traditional methods that preserve one of the UK’s most distinctive building materials.

We are looking for a motivated and reliable individual to join our team as a River Stonemason and Saw Operator helping produce slate products using traditional techniques. Riving slate is a skilled craft that requires patience, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

• Operate saw to produce slate products.
• Split and shape slate for roofing.
• Work alongside experienced craftsmen, learning traditional masonry skills.
• Maintain production standards and work under pressure.

• Self‑motivated with a positive attitude.
• Willingness to learn a skilled craft that requires patience and attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet production standards.

We offer a half‑day trial shift to help you decide if the role is right for you. If you enjoy the work and we feel you’re a good fit, we will move forward with the hiring process.

Full training will be given to teach you the traditional skills needed to split and shape slate for roofing.
