Job Summary
Department of Health seeks an experienced Public Health Nurse (PHN) to join the Section of Public Health Nursing at the Ketchikan Public Health Center. The PHN will provide a wide range of services to individuals, families, communities, and systems, with the flexibility to be hired at either the PHN‑2 or PHN‑3 level.
Key Responsibilities- Health screenings and preventive care
- Infectious disease monitoring and treatment
- Community health assessments and improvement initiatives
- Provide independent care (PHN‑2) or expert‑level care and quality improvement (PHN‑3)
- Travel periodically to outlying communities to deliver care
- Adaptability:
Adjust planned work by gathering information and applying critical thinking in a changing environment. - Self‑Management:
Set realistic goals, work independently, and demonstrate high initiative and commitment. - Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving:
Use a logical approach to address problems and opportunities, drawing on knowledge and resources.
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Alaska.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Direct‑Entry Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
- Special notes:
Unlicensed candidates may apply under a conditional offer; proof of RN licensure required prior to duty.

- Additional education, certification, or experience in public health competencies such as:
- Public Health:
Promoting healthy lifestyles, disease prevention, and infectious disease response. - Decision Making:

Skills:
Empathy, cultural sensitivity, and effective relationships. - Partnering:
Building strategic alliances across boundaries. - Analysis and Assessment:
Use of information technology for data collection and dissemination.
