We have a full-time vacancy for a Technologist to work in our Safety Product Testing department.
About The Department
SATRA's Safety Product Testing team conducts testing on a wide range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for a global customer base, to ensure products meet a minimum level of protection.
PPE tested includes gloves, fall protection, motorcycle garments, high visibility clothing, eyewear, helmets, hearing protection, chainsaw garments, kneepads, sports protection, plus many more.
The department consists of a number of accredited laboratories, housing a range of test equipment and machines, used by the team to test the physical properties of PPE against International and European standards.
Results from testing are reported to customers and used for their product development or to apply for CE or UKCA certification.
The Safety Product Testing team consists of around 25 multiskilled technicians, technologists and other support staff, arranging and conducting the testing of PPE.
About

The Role
This Technologist vacancy is predominantly for the Fall Protection PPE area and will involve arranging the testing of items such as harnesses, lanyards, connectors, anchors and many more pieces of equipment for working re may also be a requirement to be involved in other PPE areas over time.
As a Technologist within the Safety Products Testing team, you will be required to carry out the following:

· Generate reports containing results of physical testing conducted

· Customer liaison via email, over telephone and in person

· Arrange test visits either hosting on SATRA premises or on customer premises in the UK or overseas (offsite visits up to 50% annually)

· Arrange and conduct audits at manufactures sites for their production control process

· Working outside at ground level and at height for prolonged periods

· Continuous improvement of SATRA's facilities and procedure, continually seeking opportunities to develop and grow the business

· Carry out routine physical testing in accordance with International and European standards to deadlines

· Operation of test equipment to generate results which are recorded in hard copy and electronic form.
Full training will be provided for all aspects of the role where required.
About You

· You will possess GCSE's (or equivalent) in the subjects of English and Mathematics, minimum grade

C.

· Ability to travel both in the UK and overseas with valid driving licence and valid passport

· You must be highly organised, enthusiastic and able to work independently and as part of a team.

· You should be competent in the use of Microsoft Office products, in particular MS Excel and MS Word.

· Be able to accurately follow testing procedures and methods

· You will need to demonstrate excellent time management skills and to possess a flexible approach to working being able to respond to changing deadlines and priorities

· You will need to have a keen eye for detail and be methodical when making electronic entries onto systems and when completing paperwork

· Able wand willing to undertake physical setting up of test arrangements at ground level or working at height

· Experience working with customers

Experience of the following would be desirable;

· Working at height / fall protection PPE

· Industrial roof construction/ factory auditing

· Use of fork lift truck

· Working with standards/understanding of quality systems (ISO 17025)

· Understanding of mechanics/physics

· Experience of travel
