Shift Manager Kettering
DS Smith are looking for a Shift Manager to join the team based at the manufacturing site in Kettering. As a Shift Manager, people and operations management will be essential to keep our site fully operational. You will be responsible for leading and developing the manufacturing shift to achieve all KPIs, driving a culture of performance and accountability, and working closely with manufacturing colleagues across the wider DS Smith POS business and UK packaging.
RoleResponsibilities
- To constantly reduce safety hazards and ensure a positive safety behaviour culture in all areas of manufacturing.
- Drive daily H&S meetings and lead safety actions in the factory.
- Accelerate the pace of change and drive a culture of performance and continual improvement on the shift and the wider site.
- Continuously improve customer service, working with the supply chain team to maintain 100% OTIF.
- Develop effective communication channels with internal and external stakeholders, especially the supply chain team, and colleagues in other sites.
- Manage team members on the shift effectively, adhering to DS Smith Management Standards and HR policies.
- Maintain housekeeping and GMP standards, delivering audit‑ready cleanliness and quality standards at all times.
- Recruit and select employees where necessary.
- Use the Performance Appraisal Process and PDRs to ensure adequate training and development for team members.
- Develop the leadership and organisational skills of team leaders on shift, supporting them and including them in succession plans.
- Ensure management reports, including shift reports and OEE reports, are accurate and completed on time.
- Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with company health, safety and environmental policies.
- Excellent team leadership skills with a mindset of continuous improvement.
- Qualification in Safety and/or Quality Management.
- A commitment to team working principles and the necessary strengths, character, communication and interpersonal skills to take the business to record levels of productivity, quality and customer service performance.
- Computer literate to an advanced level.
- Comfortable with communicating to a wide and diverse audience.
- Analytical and rational approach to decision making.
- Proven leadership and management skills.
- Robust and confident operator, with the ability to observe and question the status quo.
