Senior Shunter - Rail

Overview

Do you have previous experience working in a rail operations, depot, sidings, or other safety-critical railway environment?

TXM Recruit are working in partnership with a high-profile railway client. They are looking for a Senior Shunter to join their team located in Kettering on a contract basis. This role is paying £21 per hour (circa £41,000 per annum).

• Manage the day-to-day delivery of depot operations and the interface with stakeholders such as train crew, drivers, and third-party contractors; ensure operations of the sidings are delivered safely.
• Oversee the safe movement of trains on and off the sidings and develop, maintain, and deliver associated operational procedures at the location.
• Lead and direct all fleet and driver operations on and off the sidings; ensure work is carried out to agreed operational standards and that tasks progress as planned.
• Ensure safe control of train movements on and off the sidings and manage related issues with appropriate parties.
• Be accountable for third-party contractors; ensure safe working practices, adherence to site standards, and delivery of contracted service levels for cleaning and maintenance.
• Provide real-time information to Control and the Depot Manager to help meet train performance KPIs.
• Report and document operational problems, and ensure investigations and incident reports are completed as required.
• Act as the Designated Person in charge of the site, including being the site point of contact for Network Rail and third-party contractors.
• Maintain and update operational systems, KPIs, and other activities as required by the Depot Manager.
• Ensure cleaning staff, site maintenance staff, and other contractors use the correct PPE for the activity.
• Deliver shift briefings to cleaning contractors’ staff and site maintenance staff regarding safety procedure changes and rules/regulations as directed.
• Carry out inductions on the sidings for contractors or other parties as required.
• Maintain site notice cases with safety information, rosters, late notices, and other required information.

• Excellent organisation and interpersonal skills are essential in this safety-critical role.
• Demonstrate thorough understanding of current rules, regulations, siding operation instructions, and safety instructions applicable to operations; previous knowledge is beneficial; however, training is provided.
• Demonstrate supervisory training.
• Carry out risk assessments.
