Resp Therapist I - Respiratory – Kettering Health

Location & Employment

Kettering Health Main Campus, Kettering, OH – Full-Time, 12 hour shift days

Job Requirements
  • Graduate of a 2-4 year AMA approved Respiratory Program
  • Required Licenses (Ohio, United States):
    Respiratory Therapist – Registered Respiratory Therapist, Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner for the State of Ohio; RRT credentials issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care;
    Current BLS with ACLS, PAL or NRP for respective area
  • Acute/critical care knowledge as it relates to cardiopulmonary disease states; ability to precept acute/critical care areas; supervisory capabilities
Job Responsibilities
  • Determine respiratory therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians/providers, ensuring compatibility with physician orders
  • Perform respiratory protocols as outlined in system policies
  • Set up and administer all routine and complex respiratory therapy procedures to patients (including inhalants, mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems)
  • Perform invasive and noninvasive testing to assist in treating chronic and acute respiratory illnesses
  • Assess and interpret evaluations and test results
  • Inspect, clean, test and maintain respiratory therapy equipment
  • Ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently
  • Order repairs when necessary; evaluate effects of the respiratory therapy treatment plan and recommend modifications when needed
  • Monitor vital signs, arterial blood gases, and review patient information
  • Complete discharge planning by consulting with medical staff and assisting with qualifying and setting up of home medical equipment
  • Record all information in patient legal record and maintain department records
  • Educate patients on their disease state, wellness, home care, and safety; provide clinical preceptorship for Respiratory Therapy students
  • All other duties assigned by departmental leadership
