Clinically trained minister responsible for providing spiritual care to primary customers, partners, and team members. Participates as a member of the healthcare team in evaluating spiritual needs of patients and providing appropriate interventions. Fosters a sense of mission that enhances a culture of trust, belonging, and a sense of mission within the hospital and the healthcare team. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and maintains respectful relationships with all.
Minimum Education- Master's degree in theology or pastoral field or equivalent
- Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education
- Ordination/licensure as minister in good standing with the SDA Church
- Personal commitment to God
- Personal integrity, emotional stability, sound physical health, and ability to work under stress
- Effective relationship with persons of diverse religious, educational, and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to earn respect of nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
- Demonstrates Kettering Health core values of belonging, wholeness, excellence, learning, and leadership
- Assesses emotional and spiritual needs of staff and patients and provides appropriate interventions
- Receives referrals and follows up within 24 hours
- Develops pastoral care plans identifying objectives, interventions, and outcomes
- Manages on‑call duty (nights, weekends, holidays)
- Recruits and manages volunteers
- Conducts patient visitation to meet KH goals
- Participates in patient care rounds
- Communicates appropriate information to the interdisciplinary team and is intentionally part of the team
- Educates staff on the role and function of the chaplain
- Provides support to staff with compassion and effective leadership
- Coordinates worship and religious services for special dates
- Leads worship services and devotionals for staff
- Provides grief and loss support to patients and staff
- Is involved in local Ministerial Association and/or a Service Club
- Provides one‑on‑one pastoral counseling to staff
- Leads and/or coordinates support groups
- Leads and supports families with end‑of‑life issues, funerals, and bereavement services
- Manages the Care Ambassador program recruitment and in‑service training
- Is part of the backup on‑call schedule to support KH chaplains
- Assists in education of CPE residents and interns as indicated
- Other duties as assigned
- Congregational pastoral experience preferred
- Experience as a hospital chaplain preferred
- Board certification preferred
