The primary function of this position is to provide a substance abuse prevention curriculum to high school-aged youth in Monroe County.
Essential Job Functions- Engages in direct staff hours of service for assigned clients
- Provides prevention counseling sessions to high school and middle school students at schools as assigned
- Conducts individual, group, and school wide activities per prevention model
- Refers client to counselor, psychologist, psychiatrist when appropriate
- Coordinates with schools and school personnel to provide prevention program
- Attend Prevention Program quarterly meetings, training and annual conference as assigned
- Functions as a liaison for prevention to outside agencies including schools, and other agencies
- Demonstrates empathetic, professional behavior toward student, families, and school personnel
- Complete satisfaction surveys with participants
- Embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision and goals of West Care Foundation
- Participate in meetings and attend trainings as required and requested
- Completes all orientation and mandated training activities, including E-Learning Courses, within required time frames, and in accordance with the criteria established for this position.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- CPS, CAS, CAS, CAC, CAP, CCJAS, CCJAC, CCJAP, LMHC, LCSW or CAS, CAC, CAP, CCJAS, CCJAC, CCJAP, LMHC, LCSW certification preferred. Preference will be given to those candidates who are currently certified
- Must be CPR/First Aid certified within 6 months of employment and every two years thereafter.
- High School Diploma or GED required with Prevention Specialist certification within 1 year.
- Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor’s degree in human services, Addiction Counseling, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology or related field is preferred
- One year experience using intervention/prevention counseling with children and/or their families required
- Ability to meet requirements of Monroe County Sheriff’s Office background check
- Understanding and application of federal, state, local and agency confidentiality rules and professional standards of conduct
- Understanding of professional ethics, consumer rights, and professional responsibilities
- Ability to actively to actively participate in continuous quality improvement activities of agency
- Knowledge of behavioral health terminology
- Knowledge of theoretical and practical concepts of individual, group and family behavior
- Demonstrated ability to deal with crisis situations
- Knowledge to deal with difficult people
- Demonstrated ability to handle a client concern/grievance according to agency protocol
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, external partners, and regulatory agencies
- Demonstrated ability to manage change and achieve results
- Demonstrated ability to expedite a voluminous flow of detailed work
- Demonstrated ability to follow and interpret instructions
- Demonstrated ability to appropriately and efficiently identify, prioritize and follow through on assignments
- Demonstrates respect for individuals when conducting assessments, developing Wellness and Recovery Plans, and providing services
- Demonstrates ability to work effectively with staff and populations
- Ability to use trauma informed care principles including ensuring consumer safety, preventing/avoiding re‑traumatization, maximizing trustworthiness, enhancing consumer choice, maximizing collaboration, and emphasizing empowerment
- Ability to identify and describe key signs, symptoms, impact and manifestations of trauma
- Aware of the differences between trauma informed and trauma‑specific services
- Understands the bidirectional relationships among substance use and mental disorders and trauma
