Educational & Certification Requirements

• Degree: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
• Professional Certification: A Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation is highly preferred and often required. Other relevant certifications include Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), or Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) credentials.

  A commitment to staying updated on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as they relate to cost accounting.

Professional Experience

• Industry Background: 3 to 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years specifically dedicated to cost accounting in a manufacturing, construction, or supply chain environment.
• Inventory Management:
  Proven experience working with inventory valuation, cycle counts, and physical inventory audits.
• Systems
  
  Experience:
  
  Hands-on experience transitioning or upgrading financial systems, or integrating cost accounting modules within broader enterprise systems.

Core Skills & Competencies

• Financial Systems:
  Proficiency with major Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or Net Suite).
• Advanced Excel:
  Mastery of Microsoft Excel (Pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, macros, and complex financial modeling).
• Analytical
  
  Skills:
  
  Strong mathematical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and perform detailed variance analysis.
• Costing Methodologies:
  Deep understanding of various costing methods, including standard costing, job order costing, process costing, and activity-based costing (ABC).
• Attention to Detail:
  High accuracy in data entry and financial reporting to ensure the integrity of financial statements.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  
  The ability to communicate financial concepts effectively to non-financial managers (such as production managers or engineers) to drive cost-saving initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities

• Collecting, analyzing, and validating data to determine the costs of business activity, such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor.
• Analyzing actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs (variance analysis).
• Assisting in the month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing journal entries and account reconciliations related to inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS).
• Working closely with the supply chain and production departments to establish standard costs and update them as necessary.
• Assisting in the preparation of the annual operating budget and forecasting future costs.
• Identifying operational inefficiencies and recommending cost-saving strategies and process improvements to management.
