Job OverviewThe Preparatory Program at Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University is a bridge program between high school and admission into degree programmes. Faculty must implement skills‑based, student‑centered, communicative, and interactive methodology, techniques and classroom management. They should be proficient in technology, including the Blackboard Learning Management System and the student information system Banner, and maintain online records of attendance, assignments, quizzes, tests and examinations.
ProgramLevels and Courses
The program consists of four levels: pre‑beginner, beginner, intermediate and advanced, roughly corresponding to CEFR levels A0–high B1. Each level delivers 22 hours of direct instruction in English:
- 10 hours of Communication Skills (listening and speaking, vocabulary and grammar)
- 10 hours of Writing Skills (reading and writing, vocabulary and grammar)
- 2 hours of project‑based Enhanced Learning
- For intermediate and advanced levels: 2 hours of Study Skills (Microsoft Office apps)
- 5 hours of mathematics taught by mathematics instructors
- Ph.D. in EFL/ESL/TESOL/TEFL, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Saudi Cultural Mission.
- Master’s degree in EFL/ESL/TESOL/TEFL, or another master’s degree in a related field (English literature, applied linguistics, reading instruction, teaching of other languages, second language acquisition) with a valid Cambridge CELTA (or equivalent TEFL/TESOL Core certification) that includes at least 120 hours of coursework and at least six hours of supervised student teaching.
- Possession of a Cambridge DELTA combined with a master’s degree and/or two years of university teaching experience is also considered acceptable.
- Demonstrable native‑proficiency in English.
- At least three (3) years of teaching experience in ESL/EFL at the university level, preferably in preparatory or foundation programs.
- Flexibility to teach all levels and Study Skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Interest in research, publication, and knowledge of standardized exams such as IELTS.
- Experience teaching abroad, especially in the Middle East or Gulf region, and experience in teaching ESP for medical or health sciences students is highly desirable.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty across disciplines, particularly in the medical sciences.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate stakeholders across multiple organisational boundaries.
- Strong planning and analytical skills.
- Ability to make sound academic decisions using good business judgment and innovative problem‑solving.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to cultivate professional partnerships.
- Relevant subject‑matter expertise.
- Experience managing research projects or laboratories.
- Enthusiasm, responsibility, and team‑building skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Teach 22 contact hours per week, including 5 office hours outside lunch, 8 hours of grading and class preparation, and 5 hours of department‑related work such as assessment, accreditation, assessment proctoring, Blackboard and Banner training, and committee service.
- Prepare and share lesson plans with administrators as required.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and timely submission of student work.
- Adhere to the set curriculum, student learning outcomes, and assessment schedule.
- Maintain a positive learning atmosphere through effective classroom management.
- Provide timely, constructive oral and written feedback on assessments and assignments.
- Engage in continuous professional development as a life‑long learner, including active membership in professional associations.
- Contribute to assessment creation, accreditation, and other committee work.
- Work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and Saturdays, as required by teaching schedules and departmental needs.
