Job Summary
The Lead Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineer is responsible for leading and managing all instrumentation and control engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, including conceptual design, detailed engineering, procurement support, construction, testing, commissioning, and startup support. The role ensures that all instrumentation and control systems are designed and implemented in compliance with project specifications, client requirements, international standards, and safety regulations.
The Lead I&C Engineer provides technical leadership, coordinates multidisciplinary engineering activities, and supports the successful execution of projects within schedule, quality, and budget requirements.
- Lead and supervise instrumentation and control engineering activities for assigned projects.
- Review and approve instrumentation and control system designs, calculations, specifications, and technical deliverables.
- Prepare and review instrument datasheets, I/O lists, control philosophies, cause & effect diagrams, hook-up drawings, loop diagrams, and instrument index documents.
- Ensure compliance with applicable international standards, project specifications, and client requirements.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams including process, mechanical, electrical, and civil departments.
- Manage I&C engineering deliverables in accordance with project schedules and budgets.
- Support procurement activities including technical bid evaluations, vendor document reviews, and material approvals.
- Review vendor packages and technical submissions for instruments, analyzers, control systems, and automation equipment.
- Provide technical support during construction, installation, loop checking, testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Participate in HAZOP studies, SIL assessments, constructability reviews, and technical meetings.
- Monitor project progress and resolve technical and engineering issues related to instrumentation and control systems.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and vendors on instrumentation and automation matters.
- Ensure reliability, safety, and operational efficiency of control systems and field instrumentation.
- Support integration and troubleshooting of DCS, PLC, SCADA, SIS, and field communication systems.
- Prepare engineering reports, technical clarifications, and project documentation.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical personnel.
- Ensure compliance with company engineering procedures, HSE policies, and quality standards.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum 10–15 years of experience in Instrumentation & Control Engineering within Oil & Gas, EPC, Petrochemical, Power Plant, Industrial, or Infrastructure projects.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a lead engineering role.
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation systems, process control systems, and industrial automation.
- Experience with DCS, PLC, SCADA, SIS, F&G systems, and field instrumentation.
- Strong understanding of international standards such as IEC, ISA, NFPA, API, and ISO.
- Experience in instrumentation design reviews, procurement support, and project execution.
- Ability to review P&IDs, control system architecture, loop diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus, and Ethernet/IP.
- Knowledge of hazardous area classification and intrinsically safe systems.
