Technical Application Engineer

Job Description Summary

In this role, the Technical Application Engineer will be responsible for business development of the GA Market, product prequalification, competitor analysis, and GA market understanding. They will provide L2 technical support, foster customer intimacy with utilities and O&G clients, conduct technical sessions, and engage in marketing across Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and other MENAT region countries. The role will closely coordinate activities with GE sales, engineering, and services and report to the GA TAE Leader MENAT.

• Grid automation domain activity in the field of protection relays for transmission & distribution, control systems SCADA- SCMS.
• Provide technical activity for application support, L2 customer support, prequalification, and launch of products & solutions.
• Competitor mapping and NPI planning.
• Technical marketing – ITO coordination with sales & tendering team, obsolescence management, coordination with after-sales/support team.
• Internal expertise development for other cross functions.
• Site visits & testing for major events/troubleshooting.
• Create opportunities based on installed base and market information.
• Provide technical support to regional clients: technical queries, customized solutions, scheme engineering support, field performance analysis.
• Complete testing of protection relays and automation systems in GE V lab and live substations.
• Key role in product launches, presentations, spec-in activities, exhibitions, and site trials via marketing.
• Implement actions necessary for product approvals based on regional strategy and priorities.
• Lead investigation and resolution of product problems reported by customers (L2).
• Support local actions for major non-quality issues.
• Study customer’s technical & commercial requirements, support tendering and contract negotiation.
• Improve awareness of GA solutions, obtain competitor data, track customer specifications, and monitor new product availability.
• Track firmware upgrades, changes in product features, and participate in necessary local actions.
• Support customers with product literature needs.

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent power systems engineering from an accredited university or college.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in commissioning or application of protection & control products, applications or engineering projects in the grid automation field, and site experience in conventional and digital control systems (PSA).
• Extensive experience in GE or equivalent non-GE protection & automation products.
• Mandatory site testing & commissioning experience for deep analysis, demonstrations, and sample installations.
• Experience in utilities, industrial/O&G applications (motors, generators, feeders, transformers, ATS schemes).
• Willingness to travel up to 50% as required.
• Knowledge and experience in protection relays, substation automation, transformer monitoring & diagnostics, switch gear, substations, power plants, industrial plants & power systems.
• Testing & commissioning experience with EHV utility renewables is an added advantage.
• Experience with O&G MV applications is a definite advantage.

• Strong interpersonal and analytical skills to quickly understand and guide solutions to customer issues.
• Strong problem-solving skills with emphasis on innovative and creative solutions that increase profitability, visibility, and market penetration.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong site experience with advanced automation applications and cyber security.
• Professional experience with customers in major utilities, other Middle East countries, key regional utility and oil & gas customers, EPCs, OEMs, and system integrators.
• Working experience with O&G MV applications.
