The Production Engineer in the event fabrication workshop is responsible for executing the day‑to‑day fabrication of event structures, exhibition stands, sets, and custom props. Working under the Production Manager, this role translates technical drawings into physical outputs across carpentry, metalwork, printing, foam work, and painting disciplines, ensuring each element meets quality standards and is completed on schedule. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on fabrication professional with solid technical skills across multiple workshop disciplines, a keen eye for quality, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out daily fabrication tasks across assigned disciplines — carpentry, metalwork, printing, foam work, and/or painting — in line with production schedules.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, shop drawings, and design briefs to execute fabrication accurately.
- Work with the Production Manager to plan workload sequencing and flag capacity or material constraints proactively.
- Identify and resolve production issues on the workshop floor to maintain output quality and timeline.
- Perform self‑inspection of fabricated items at each production stage to ensure compliance with approved drawings and samples.
- Ensure all outputs meet the required finish quality before handover to the installation or dispatch team.
- Identify root causes of recurring defects and suggest corrective measures to the Production Manager.
- Use materials efficiently, minimise waste, and report any shortfalls or substitutions to the Production Manager.
- Operate, maintain, and store workshop tools and equipment correctly, reporting any faults immediately.
- Assist in stock counts, material requests, and consumables tracking as directed.
- Adhere strictly to all HSE protocols, use correct PPE at all times, and maintain a clean, organised workstation.
- Identify and immediately report unsafe conditions, near‑misses, or equipment faults.
- Coordinate with fellow engineers and trades to ensure smooth production handoffs between disciplines.
- Provide regular status updates to the Production Manager on task completion, delays, and material needs.
- Assist with on‑site installation and dismantlement of projects as required.
- Experience:
3–5 years of hands‑on fabrication experience in the event industry, fit‑out, scenery construction, or related workshop environment. - Technical
Skills:
Proficiency in at least two workshop disciplines — carpentry, metalwork, foam work, printing, or painting — with a willingness to cross‑train. - Drawing Reading:
Ability to interpret technical drawings, shop drawings, and cut lists. - Tools & Equipment:
Hands‑on experience with power tools, hand tools, and related workshop machinery. - Software:
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with CAD software is a plus. - Education:
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related technical field preferred; strong practical experience is equally valued. - Detail‑oriented, dependable, and able to work under pressure to meet tight event deadlines.
- Environment:
Must be able to work in a workshop environment, which may include loud noise, dust, and heat, with some on‑site installation work. - Hours:
May require working evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet event deadlines. - Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and handle tight deadlines and to work on site, which may include lifting, standing for long periods, and working in varied conditions.
