Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS) is the Shared Environmental Health and Licensing Service for all six Worcestershire District Councils, hosted by Bromsgrove District Council. WRS is based at Wyre Forest District Council offices in Kidderminster but we operate across the county and for some service areas wider afield. Do you have an enquiring mind with a customer‑focused attitude? If so, read on! We are looking for a full‑time Technical Officer/Senior Technical Officer to join our busy, forward‑thinking service. You will be part of our Environmental Enforcement team, covering enforcement work of environmental legislation including planning enforcement and environmental crime such as fly‑tipping. You will need enthusiasm, a commitment to accuracy and good customer service, the ability to work independently, confidence in using your own judgement and initiative, while also working effectively as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.
Your working locations will include remote work and on‑site duties across Bromsgrove and Redditch from our modern offices at Wyre Forest House, Kidderminster, DY11 7WF
.
- A science‑related qualification, such as A‑levels (Grade
5) or a degree/further qualification in a relevant subject (e.g., Environmental Health/Science, Town Planning, or related subject). - Post is career graded across Grades 5, 6 and 7 to allow recruitment of people with limited experience and subsequent development.
- Initial appointment will be based on the qualifications and experience of the applicant matching the different levels within the post Job Description.
- Progression between grades is based on demonstrating competencies and meeting the needs of the service.
- Provide advice and information to the public and/or businesses on legislation related to Regulatory Services.
- Carry out routine inspections of property, land and vehicles and collect evidence for enforcement decisions.
- Prepare, interpret and analyse reports and data sets, producing summary reports and advice for submission to a range of stakeholders.
- Understand and analyse complex problems and interpret and implement complex legislative provisions.
- Communicate to a variety of audiences and negotiate to gain support on key issues.
- Organise oneself amid conflicting demands and priorities, responding positively and appropriately in emergency situations.
- Work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines and performance targets.
- Willing to appear as a witness and give evidence in court when required.
- Good oral and written skills, including report writing and presentation.

- Senior Technical Officer Grade 7 (£35 412–£40 077)
