Technical Specialist, Cell Modelling
Elysia Battery Intelligence
Kidlington, Oxford, United Kingdom

Elysia Battery Intelligence is building the intelligence layer for battery storage.

Backed by Fortescue, Elysia combines deep battery R&D with real-time software and cloud-based analytics, turning complex battery data into actionable intelligence across automotive, off-highway and stationary energy storage.

As Elysia continues to grow its cell modelling capability, the business is hiring a Technical Specialist to take ownership of key battery modelling programmes while leading and developing a specialist team of engineers.

This is an opportunity for an experienced cell modeller to remain close to the technical work while taking broader ownership across people, projects, technical standards and customer delivery.

Role

Purpose:

Lead cell modelling delivery across multiple customer programmes, translating complex laboratory and real-world battery data into robust engineering models that can be used across live battery development programmes.

You will lead a team of five engineers, manage competing technical priorities and work closely with customers and internal technical teams to ensure high-quality technical delivery.

The role combines hands-on battery modelling expertise with technical leadership, giving you the opportunity to shape modelling standards, team capability and delivery as Elysia's modelling function grows.

Role:
Technical Specialist, Cell Modelling

Position Type:
Full-Time, Permanent

Location:
Kidlington, Oxford

Work Model:
Hybrid

What You'll Do:
  • Lead cell modelling delivery across multiple customer programmes and projects.
  • Lead, support and develop a specialist team of five cell modelling engineers.
  • Develop reduced-order battery models, including Equivalent Circuit Models (ECMs) and Equivalent Circuit Networks (ECNs).
  • Translate laboratory and real-world battery data into robust engineering models.
  • Work with cell characterisation data to support modelling of SoC, SoH, ageing and degradation behaviour.
  • Manage competing technical priorities across multiple live customer programmes.
  • Work closely with customers and internal engineering and technical teams to understand requirements and deliver appropriate modelling solutions.
  • Provide technical direction and ensure modelling work meets the required standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Support the development of modelling methodologies, processes and technical standards across Elysia.
  • Remain hands-on with the technical work while taking ownership of wider project and team delivery.
What We're Looking For:
  • Strong experience in lithium-ion cell modelling within an engineering or technology environment.
  • Hands-on experience developing ECM, ECN or other reduced-order battery models.
  • Experience taking battery models from development through to use within real engineering or customer projects.
  • Strong understanding of cell characterisation and battery behaviour, including SoC, SoH, ageing and degradation.
  • Experience leading technical delivery, projects or engineering teams.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with customers and technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working within EV, automotive, motor sport, off-highway, mining or stationary energy storage environments.
  • A practical and analytical approach to solving complex battery modelling problems.
  • Experience with tools such as Simscape Battery, PyBaMM, GT-Auto Lion, Simcenter or COMSOL would also be highly relevant.
Why Elysia?
  • Take technical ownership of some of Elysia's most important battery modelling programmes.
  • Lead and develop a specialist team while remaining close to the technical work.
