SR Cost Accountant

This position is responsible for all areas related to financial reporting for the Fertilizer Department of the Sulfur Services Segment. The position will be responsible for developing and maintaining practices and procedures to ensure timely and accurate financial statements for the Fertilizer operations. The position will capture and classify cost data to determine the cost associated with products/product lines, projects, or departments along with margins, inventory transactions, manufacturing transactions, and purchases to ensure accuracy in counts, costs and overhead.

The duties will also include other related accounting functions and analysis as needed by the Fertilizer group. This position will report directly to the Assistant Corporate Controller in partnership with the Fertilizer Department.

• Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure pertaining to the Fertilizer Operation
• Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information
• Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
• Review manufacturing work orders daily and assist with processing as required.
• Record inventory adjustments and reclassifications.
• Daily review journal entries related to inventory and manufacturing to ensure accuracy and completeness
• Issue correcting, recurring, reversing and closing journal entries as required
• Maintain accurate master file data for items, bills of materials, and routings in JDE software system
• Analyses costs and overhead throughout the month to identify possible errors and implement corrections
• Manage periodic inventory and reconciliation of physical to book
• Assist in month end close
• Assist as needed to answer questions from audit
• Assist in budgeting process for the division
• Other duties and special projects as needed and assigned by Supervisor.

4 year college degree (or equivalent)

Prefer BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting

• 4 to 6 years
• Experience with cost accounting and inventory management
• Experience with JDE inventory, Rapid Reconciler and/or manufacturing software a plus.
• Extensive use of Excel
