Area Health Information Specialist

  Monday‑Friday 8:00AM‑4:30PM EST

  Killeen, TX 76549 (one location)
• Processing medical record requests by taking calls from patients, insurance companies and attorneys to provide medical status.
• Documenting information in multiple platforms using two computer monitors.

• Receive and process requests for patient health information in accordance with Company policies.
• Maintain confidentiality and security of all privileged information.
• Maintain working knowledge of Company software.
• Adhere to the Company’s Code of Conduct and privacy policies.
• Assist with additional work duties or responsibilities as required.
• Consistently apply medical privacy regulations to guard against unauthorized disclosure.
• Manage patient health records and safeguard compliance with HIPAA standards.
• Prepares new patient charts, gathering documents from paper sources and electronic health records.
• Ensures medical records are accurate, complete and assembled in standard order.
• Creates digital images of paperwork to store in the electronic medical record.
• Responds to requests for patient records, both within the facility and by external sources.
• Answer inbound and outbound calls.
• May assist with patient walk‑ins, faxes, opening mail and data entry.
• Assist with training associates in the HIS I position.
• Generates reports for manager or facility as directed.
• Must exceed Level 1 productivity expectations at the specific site.
• Participates in project teams and committees to advance operational strategies.
• Acts in a lead role with staff regarding general questions and assists with new hire training and developmental training.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Able to travel locally/regional 75% or more of the time.
• Ability to commute between locations as needed.
• Able to work overtime during peak seasons when required.
• 1 year of Health Information related experience.
• Meets and/or exceeds Company’s Productivity Standards.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Comfortable utilizing phones, fax machine, printers and general office equipment.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Detail‑oriented with accurate and compliant medical record information.
• Must work with minimum supervision, responding to changing priorities.
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks.
• Able to respond to requests in a fast‑paced environment.
• Previous production and metric‑based work experience.
• Ability to build relationships with on‑site clients and customers.
• Comfortable bringing new ideas, process improvement suggestions and feedback to stakeholders.
