POSITION SUMMARYThe Student Services Generalist provides immediate guidance and assistance to students in need of advising, enrollment, financial aid, IT, and other support. The role delivers on‑site, front‑office support, maintains extensive collaboration with campus offices, and acts as a first line of contact for a broad range of student needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Duties)- Answer general questions from visitors about CT State, Quinebaug Valley, and Willimantic Center academic programs and student services.
- Provide basic guidance on enrollment and admissions for prospective students.
- Assist with basic course registration and add/drop procedures after GPA assessment and within appropriate timelines.
- Troubleshoot basic technical challenges (e.g., password resets, email access, Blackboard navigation, printing).
- Guide students to appropriate student services resources via the CT State and QV websites.
- Facilitate connections to individual staff members for support via phone or Teams when on‑site assistance is unavailable.
- Collaborate with Guided Pathways Advisors and Director of Career Services to provide career exploration support.
- Coordinate the recruitment, hiring, and training of Federal Work Study student employees.
- Update and maintain information in public spaces on services and resources for students.
- Share information on events, academic deadlines, and other items of interest with students, faculty, and staff.
- Support the implementation of student success events, including New Student Orientation.
- Associate’s Degree in a relevant field plus up to three (3) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience in student services in a higher education setting.
- Strong communication skills with demonstrated success in building and maintaining professional relationships with students, faculty, administration, and staff.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and general IT literacy.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students.
- Experience in student services at a community college.
- Experience using a Student Information System such as Banner or comparable system.
- Experience using event management software (e.g., EMS or comparable scheduling software).
- Experience in a student‑facing office setting.
- Additional languages beyond English (e.g., ASL, Spanish, Arabic, Bosnian) considered a preferred qualification.
$34.06 per hour (part‑time, up to 17 hours per week)
