An exciting opportunity is available to join the Customer Services Department of Dumfries and Galloway Council as a Trainee Customer Service Advisor.

All you need are qualifications to SCQF Level 4 (National
4), the ability to talk to people, and a desire to develop yourself. If you have this and oodles of enthusiasm and positivity, then we want to hear from you.

This is an ideal opportunity to build yourself a career in a customer-focused and forward-thinking environment. We’ll provide all training which includes supporting you to sit the professional qualification to become a Registrar of births, deaths and marriages in Scotland.

These roles are ideally suited to school, college leavers, and those looking for a career change.

Our Customer Services Department works in the heart of our local communities delivering face to face customer services, libraries, heritage services, and registration for births, deaths, and marriages.

To give you a sense of the role, in a typical day you can go from registering a birth, conducting a marriage, delivering Book Bug sessions, to giving out food parcels and library books. So, if you love variety in your day and can see yourself at the heart of a community supporting people through the best and worst life events, we want to hear from you.

These posts will be based in the Annandale and Eskdale area of the region working in our sites in Annan, Moffat, Lockerbie, Lochmaben, Lockerbie, Eastriggs and the home of weddings in Gretna. As a result, the ability to travel between these sites is an essential requirement of the role which means a current driving licence is desirable. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

Successful candidates will need to be available for an Assessment Centre to be held on Wednesday 2 nd December 2026 at Lockerbie Customer Service Centre. All candidates invited to the assessment centre will be provided with all topics and questions in advance.

The expected start date for these positions is February 2027.
