Cleaner – Grade
3. Salary: £24,546 per annum.
28 days annual leave plus 9 building‑closed days and Christmas Eve (when it falls on a weekday).
Shifts Available- 25 hrs per week: 06:00‑11:00, 16:00‑21:00 or 17:00‑22:00 (5 over
7) – includes weekend work - 6 hrs per week: 06:00‑12:00

Purpose of the RoleTo ensure an effective and efficient operation of cleaning services within Heriot‑Watt University Riccarton campus. The Cleaner works day‑to‑day programmes within allocated cleaning zones to keep student accommodation, offices, meeting rooms and lecture theatres clean and hygienic. The role contributes to excellent service for students, staff and visitors by maintaining the campus to a high standard.
KeyDuties & Responsibilities
- Clean all University buildings and accommodation to a high standard following SOPs.
- Use appropriate equipment and machinery; report any faults to the Cleaning Supervisor.
- Work within and maintain service level agreements.
- Support line management to deliver a flexible, efficient and professional service to all customers.
- Report repairs, faults and maintenance to the Cleaning Supervisor.
- Demonstrable ability to speak and understand English to follow verbal and written instructions and to respond to customer/student queries.
- Well‑developed interpersonal skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work quickly, flexibly and accurately in a pressured environment.
- Professional and proactive approach.
- Attention to detail.
- Experience of cleaning in a similar environment.
- Experience operating relevant cleaning equipment.
