Male Support Worker (Person Centred) – Kilmarnock

Pay Rate: £13.45 per hour
Hours:
5 hours per week (2:1 support), flexibility required
We are seeking compassionate, reliable and person‑centred Male Support Workers to work with a young man who is neurodiverse and lives at home with his family in Kilmarnock.
This role will initially focus on providing support within the home environment to build trust and develop a strong, consistent relationship. Over time, support will extend into the local community, helping him to access activities safely, develop social connections, and build confidence and independence.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will provide consistent, person‑centred support tailored to the individual’s needs while building a positive and trusting relationship through patience and understanding. The role involves supporting the young man at home and gradually within community settings, encouraging social interaction and helping to expand his social networks.
You will promote and model appropriate behaviours in community environments while following and implementing a person‑centred support plan. A strong awareness of the individual’s communication style, personal preferences, established routines and both known and unknown triggers is essential.
You will use proactive strategies to anticipate and de‑escalate potential challenges and will work closely with the family to ensure a consistent and effective approach at all times.
About YouWe are looking for someone who is empathetic, patient and understanding, with a strong commitment to person‑centred care. You should be able to provide consistency and reliability in your approach to reduce anxiety and confusion.
You will be observant and able to anticipate potential challenges, communicate effectively and work in partnership with the family. A calm and reassuring manner is essential, along with the ability to create a safe and supportive environment. Experience supporting individuals with neurodiversity would be beneficial but is not essential.

Post subject to successful reference and PVG checks. Two up‑to‑date reference contacts are required, one of which must be from a present or previous employer. A new PVG enhanced disclosure will be required prior to appointment (disclosure cost to be met by the employer). Probationary period attached is 6 months to this post. During this period, either party can end the employment by giving the other one week’s notice.
