Lead Scientist - Synthetic Organic Chemistry

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Lead Scientist with expertise in Synthetic Organic Chemistry to direct research efforts in their Kimberley facility. This senior position involves leading the design and execution of complex multi-step synthesis projects, contributing significantly to the discovery and development of novel compounds. You will be instrumental in mentoring a team of synthetic chemists, guiding strategic research directions, and ensuring the successful progression of projects from laboratory scale to potential larger-scale synthesis.

• Design and execute sophisticated multi-step synthetic routes for complex organic molecules.
• Lead a team of synthetic chemists, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise.
• Troubleshoot challenging synthetic problems and develop innovative solutions to overcome obstacles.
• Characterize synthesized compounds thoroughly using modern spectroscopic techniques (NMR, MS, IR) and chromatographic methods.
• Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets effectively to ensure timely delivery of research objectives.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in synthetic organic chemistry and implement new methodologies to enhance research capabilities.

• PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of post-doctoral or industry experience focused on synthetic organic chemistry.
• Proven track record of successfully synthesizing complex molecules, including optimization of reaction conditions.
• Expertise in modern spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques for compound characterization.
• Strong understanding of reaction mechanisms, stereo chemistry, and retrosynthetic analysis.
