Rocky Mountain School District No. 6 is now accepting external applications for:
Youth Care Worker
Permanent, part-time (2 6.75 hr/wk)
Effective September 8, 2026.
Nature and Scope of WorkThe Youth Care Worker works with individual or group(s) of students requiring social-emotional/behavioral supports/interventions. Youth Care Workers will work under the direction of the Principal.
Examples of Work- Apply strategies with student to build self-awareness, healthy emotional regulation and responsible decision-making.
- Assisting in the implementation of program objectives by addressing problems that are preventing students from achieving success in responding to challenge.
- Working with students who have identified exceptional social/emotional needs and referring them to other support services as necessary. Provide targeted supports for students in creating and reinforcing healthy coping skills and well-being at school.
- Collaboration in the design, implementing and evaluating interventions with students and families, under the direction of the appropriate district or school based supervisor.
- Acting as a liaison with students, their parents/guardians, relevant staff and outside agencies as necessary.
- Providing reports and collecting data to support programming (ie. Functional Behavioral Assessment) as required.
- Establishing and maintaining records of individual and group student contacts.
- Providing individual or small group activities for students aimed at promoting self-esteem, building social-emotional skills, encouraging and interest in learning and preparing students for success.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
- Adaptable and flexible in approach to meet the unique needs of each school and student.
- Understanding of diverse abilities, trauma informed practice, behavioral difficulties disorders and mental illness.
- Observational, motivation, and behaviour management skills.
- Communication, cooperation and collaborative skills.
- Must possess the ability to build relationships with students, staff and families.
- Must be capable of working cooperatively as a team member.
- Must possess good interpersonal skills.
- Must be capable of maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Must possess an ability to understand the needs of youth having mental, emotional and/or behavioral difficulties.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Qualified applicants will hold a diploma or certificate from a recognized course of study at an accredited institute, including a supervised practicum, in at least one area of adolescent psychology, behavior management, youth work or related fields.
- Valid driver's license. Unqualified applicants may include other related post‑secondary education.
- Certification in CPI or de‑escalation strategies would be an asset.
- Certification in Trauma Informed Schools or equivalent would be an asset.
- Experience working on a multi‑disciplinary team.
Responsible to the Administrator and the Director of Instruction, Learning Support Services.
Rate of PayAs per Collective Agreement 440
$31.79/hr – Qualified Youth Care Worker
$28.60/hr – Non‑Qualified Youth Care Worker
