JOB DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:


The Hydrologist will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive stormwater, hydrology and flood risk assessment at the Mine. The role includes site assessments, advanced hydrological modelling, stormwater master planning, flood hazard analysis and the development of a conceptual Stormwater Management Plan aligned with Anglo-American and DWS best practice guidelines across current, planned and closure phases of the mine


EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Proven expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater master planning and flood risk assessment
  • Advanced modelling capability using industry-preferred hydrology and hydraulic software
  • Experience in training and technical modelling methodologies
  • Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng)
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Hydrology
  • Experience with in mining or large industrial environments highly advantageous

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate would be required, but not limited to:
  • Conduct site visits including inspection, data collection, sampling and measuring of stormwater infrastructure
  • Verify topographic and survey data and develop a detailed status quo assessment for modelling purposes
  • Identify and document all man-made structures influencing stormwater runoff (roads, rail, embankments, etc.)
  • Identify survey data gaps and develop additional field survey plans where required
  • Develop layout plans of existing stormwater infrastructure and planned/pipeline stormwater projects
  • Compile a detailed technical memorandum including photographs, findings, problem areas and infrastructure schedule
  • Delineate catchments considering life of mine plans and clean/dirty water separation
  • Evaluate adequacy of onsite climate monitoring network
  • Develop intensity-duration-frequency rainfall curves using latest rainfall data and climate change considerations
  • Characterize hydrology, topography and runoff for various life-of-mine scenarios including closure
  • Develop a conceptual Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP) for current, planned and closure phases
  • Conduct flood hazard evaluation using rain-on-grid/direct rainfall modelling methods
  • Produce site flood maps in line with AA TS 602 104 standards for various rainfall scenarios
  • Evaluate adequacy of existing stormwater and flood control infrastructure (culverts, berms, trenches, sumps, pumps, etc.)
  • Provide flood and sedimentation risk exposure summary with supporting technical memorandum and presentation.
  • Provide maps in KMZ, PDF and shapefile formats and share model input files with client.
  • Facilitate a one-day risk assessment workshop aligned to the AA integrated risk rating matrix guideline
