Director of Christian Education

Key Responsibilities

Ministry Leadership & Programming

Develop and implement comprehensive Christian education and discipleship programs for children, youth, and adults under pastoral guidance

Lead Sunday School, children’s church, youth group meetings, and Senior Friends programming with age‑appropriate curriculum

Coordinate confirmation programs in partnership with families and congregation

Design intergenerational experiences that connect all ages through shared learning, mentoring, and service

Organize seasonal programming throughout the church year (VBS, mission trips, holiday events)

Incorporate interactive, experiential activities and technology to engage diverse learning styles

Provide or coordinate Children’s Message during worship services

Encourage children and youth participation in Sunday worship

Community & Family Engagement

Build supportive relationships with parents and families in conjunction with pastoral care

Develop family‑friendly events that encourage Christian values and family traditions

Create community‑oriented outreach opportunities that extend the church’s reach beyond the congregation

Operations & Team Management

Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer and paid childcare staff with clear expectations and ongoing support

Coordinate childcare coverage for worship services and special events with the Christian Education Committee

Manage program logistics, classroom setup, and procurement of educational supplies

Implement and maintain Safe Sanctuary policies, ensuring compliance with all child safety laws, background checks, and mandated reporter training

Develop detailed implementation plans with measurable outcomes

Collaborate with Pastor, church leadership, committees, and volunteers to align programming with the congregation’s mission and vision

A DCE within the Moravian Church Southern Province is expected to participate in denominational activities, including:

Teacher training events and monthly DCE meetings

Provincial programs, camps, and Board of Cooperative Ministries initiatives

One week of service in the provincial camping ministry at Laurel

Promotion of Laurel Ridge events and Synod programs
