Position SummaryThe incumbent serves as a skilled Power Plant Operator under the supervision of the Power Plant Superintendent, maintaining and operating high‑pressure steam boilers, a diesel‑fueled generator, chillers, and associated water treatment and HVAC systems to support the 24/7 operations of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and monitor high‑pressure steam boilers, diesel generators, and chiller units.
- Maintain and troubleshoot air compressors, reverse osmosis units, water softeners, and chemical feed systems.
- Control chilled water system operations, including centrifugal chillers, variable frequency drive pumps, and tower pumps.
- Monitor HVAC system status, review plant operational logs, and report to the Power Plant Superintendent.
- Perform all tasks in compliance with OSHA regulations and federal, state, and agency policies.
- Work in narrow, confined, and occasionally poorly ventilated spaces with exposure to noise, temperature extremes, and live steam lines.
- Perform heavy lifting, including exerting in excess of 75 pounds to move or install equipment.
- Climb ladders or scaffolding and work on structures of varying heights while wearing PPE.
Minimally qualified applicants will have experience performing general maintenance and repairs in an industrial facility. Well‑qualified applicants will also provide details about their experience:
- Working in a 24/7 facility.
- Operating standby emergency generators, centrifugal chillers, and/or high‑pressure steam boilers.
- Working with air conditioning or refrigeration systems.
- Following safety procedures.
Starting wage of $27.91 per hour, plus additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Pay schedule‑pay range 03‑15. Position is not represented by a bargaining unit.
