Overview
The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs is recruiting multiple Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) positions at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK). WVHK is a 24/7/365 long-term-care facility providing care for elderly or disabled Wisconsin veterans and their spouses. The facility is located along the Chain O' Lakes, off Highway 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton.
Responsibilities- Provide direct and indirect nursing care for geriatric and/or disabled residents.
- Make critical observations, perform personal cares, treatments, and medication administration, and document care.
- Gather patient data (e.g., blood pressures, pulses, accu checks) and participate in care coordination and unit/building operations.
- Participate in activities that support unit, building, bureau, and facility goals.
The required qualifications are:
- Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Wisconsin or a Nurse Licensure Compact state, or
- Eligibility for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Wisconsin or a Nurse Licensure Compact state prior to hire.
Experience that will be reviewed in later steps includes:
- Providing basic nursing care
- Administering medications and basic treatments
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Professional communication and computer skills
- Providing advanced practical nursing care in long-term care or related settings

Salary and BenefitsStarting pay ranges from $29.42 to $37.83 per hour, depending on years of professional experience, with additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Positions at 60% of full-time or greater are eligible for a benefits package. A sign-on bonus of $2,000 is offered for eligible employees, with payment milestones noted in the offer.

Hours and Work ScheduleHours:
Full Time (40 hrs/week) and Part Time (less than 40 hrs/week). Evening 2nd Shift (2pm–10pm or similar hours). Availability to work varying hours and overtime as assigned.
This position is in pay schedule-range 06-05. Pay is set per the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. Not represented by a bargaining unit. Pre-employment background check and TB skin test are required. A 12-month probationary period may be required.
