Job SummaryThe Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) will evaluate, diagnose, and treat communication and swallowing disorders in residents, collaborating with physicians and other interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized therapy plans.
Essential Job Functions- Collaborate in a long‑term care rehabilitation environment, providing services that extend from acute medical care to resident rehabilitation.
- Act as a vital component of interdisciplinary teams overseeing direct resident management.
- Work closely with residents suffering from stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI), cerebral palsy, throat or mouth cancer, congenital palsy, degenerative neuromuscular disease (e.g., Parkinson’s, MS), and dementia.
- Assess resident speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders; construct personalized treatment plans.
- Utilize audio‑visual and electronic voice‑machine technology to enhance therapy effectiveness.
- Observe, evaluate, and adjust therapy techniques to ensure optimal outcomes.
- Coordinate with physical, occupational, and nursing teams to maintain productivity standards.
- Complete discharge planning, including home exercise programs and assistive device recommendations.
- Maintain accurate documentation in resident and department charts.
- Set program goals, evaluate equipment needs, and participate in community budget planning.
- Safeguard patient confidentiality and adhere to ASHA Standards of Care and other professional regulations.
- Deliver in‑service training to speech therapy staff and related team members.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair therapy equipment; promptly address equipment malfunctions.
- Engage in continuing education, attend workshops, and stay current with publications.
- Master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology (required).
- Minimum of 2 years successful experience in the area of specialization.
- Valid ADHS Speech‑Language Pathology license (required).
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC‑SLP) – Clinical Speech Pathologist (required).
- Strong communication skills for effective information conveyance.
Therapist duties are physically demanding, requiring frequent walking, standing, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Employees must be able to perform max‑assist transfers (75 % employee, 25 % resident), and handle supplies and equipment weighing up to 100 lb, with frequent exertion of up to 50 lb.
Work ScheduleSchedules vary by location and may include work at alternative sites as needed.
