ResponsibilitiesQuality of Care and Nursing Process
- The nurse provides evidence-based care to prevent Healthcare Acquired Conditions and hospital readmissions.
- The nurse practices standard precautions during patient contact and handling of contaminated materials.
Assessment
- The nurse completes nursing assessments according to hospital and unit policies and standards of care.
- Collects pertinent data from the patient, significant others, and health care providers.
- Performs a comprehensive patient history and physical in a timely manner addressing biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care abilities, educational, age-specific, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
Diagnosis / Care Needs
- Nursing diagnoses / care needs derive from assessment data.
- Involves patient and significant others as appropriate; formulates a plan based on identified needs.
Implementation
- Nursing care is based on identified diagnoses and patient care standards and is coordinated with other disciplines.
Evaluation
- Evaluates patient progress toward outcomes; revises diagnoses / care needs as reassessment data becomes available.

Education
:
Associate Degree in Nursing or graduate of a Nursing Diploma program.
Certification/Licensure
:
- Current, valid Arizona RN license or compact state RN license
- Current BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Unit Specific Requirements
- Medical Surgical Units:
Basic EKG competency within 3 months of hire - Pediatrics: PALS certification within 6 months of hire
- Intensive Care Unit / Progressive Care Unit: ACLS;
Basic EKG within 30 days - Women’s Services: NRP within 6 months
- Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS within 3 months; ESI training within 6 months; TNCC within 24 months
- Hemodialysis: ACLS;
Basic ECG within 3 months - Clinical Decision Unit:
Basic EKG within 3 months - ECHO: ACLS;
Basic ECG within 30 days - Surgical Services / Circulator: ACLS;
Basic EKG within 30 days - Surgical Services / PACU / Outpatient: ACLS and PALS;
Basic EKG within 30 days - Cath Lab: ACLS; ECG competency; minimum 2 years RN experience
- Cardiology:
Basic EKG within 30 days
Clinical Lead Requirements:
Maintains BLS/ACLS/PALS etc. as required per RN position.
Education
:
Bachelor’s in nursing
Experience
:
Experience in the respective clinical area is preferred
Medical Surgical Units
:
Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse encouraged; ACLS preferred
Pediatrics
:
One-year acute pediatric experience;
Certified Pediatric Nurse encouraged
ICU/Cardiovascular ICU
:
Certified Critical Care Nurse encouraged; CVICU certifications encouraged; PCU experience preferred
Progressive Care Unit
:
Two years acute care experience;
Progressive Care Certified Nurse encouraged
Women’s Services
: ACLS during orientation; S.T.A.B.L.E. during orientation; NRP/Labor certification tracks; two years labor/postpartum/newborn experience; lactation nursing and obstetrical certifications encouraged
Emergency Department
: 1-year Acute Med/Surg nursing; CCRN or CEN encouraged
Other Areas include Acute Rehab, Hemodialysis, ECHO, Cath Lab, etc. with respective certifications and experience listed in the original description.
