Bar Manager

Contract Duration: 8 Months (February – September) with potential for extension or permanent role.

Hours:

40 hours per week, including weekends, evenings and bank holidays. Overtime available.

Devon Rum Co. is a Salcombe-based company handcrafting artisan rums. Within our blending house on Island Street, we operate a unique rum bar at the heart of the town. Known for expertly crafted rum cocktails, great coffee, and a lively atmosphere, we attract a busy seasonal crowd of locals and holidaymakers alike.

By day, we’re well known for our quality artisan coffee. By night, we’re a buzzing live music venue and one of Salcombe’s favourite spots for exceptional drinks and great times by the water.

As we continue to grow, we’re looking for an enthusiastic, hands-on Bar Manager to lead our team and help make Devon Rum Co. the best bar destination in town.

As our Bar Manager, you will be the driving force behind the smooth day-to-day operations of our rum bar. This is a hands-on role where you ll lead from the front, guide the team, and ensure everything from stock control to customer service is running like clockwork. We re looking for someone outgoing, creative and confident to bring new ideas and energy to the team.

By morning, Devon Rum Co. has a great reputation for coffee, this will require a hands on approach to ensure the efficient running and serving of our delicious artisan coffees.

During the day and into the night, Devon Rum Co. becomes a lively cocktail bar, known for expertly crafted cocktails and a great atmosphere. On select evenings, we host some of the best live music in town, and as Bar Manager you ll work closely with the Events Manager to ensure these events run smoothly while maintaining efficient, high-quality bar service at all times.

• Lead and inspire the bar team, setting an example for excellent customer service and teamwork.
• Oversee the daily operations of the bar, including stock take, bar rota, and ordering supplies.
• Keep our bar and store areas clean, well-maintained, and in tip-top shape to ensure a high standard of presentation.
• Assist with the creation of new and exciting cocktails, contributing fresh ideas to expand our offerings.
• Train and guide staff, ensuring the team is fully equipped to deliver outstanding service.
• Work alongside the Events Manager to host live music events and in-house bar promotions.
• Offer product knowledge to guests, conduct tastings, and provide recommendations to enhance the customer experience.
• Support our retail space by offering advice and selling bottles to customers in the tasting area.
• Provide coffee/barista training to the team (preferred).
• Ensure compliance with all health and safety standards, including maintaining hygiene and cleanliness.
• Responsible for Licensing and compliance - e.g ensuring challenge 25 is being used

• Previous bartending and management or supervisory experience preferred.
• A natural leader who can motivate, guide, and develop a team.
• Knowledgeable in drinks, cocktails, and coffee.
• Creative, proactive, and keen to introduce new ideas to improve our menu and service.
• Excellent communication skills and a customer-first attitude.
• Strong organisational skills with a keen eye for detail.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Must be able to reliably travel to Salcombe or prepared to relocate to the local area
