Colonial Heights Baptist Church, Kingsport, TN, is seeking an Associate Pastor of Youth and Families.

Job Description:

The Associate Pastor of Youth and Families will oversee children, youth, and families, providing spiritual guidance, planning events, and fostering a faith-filled environment. Key duties include developing discipleship programs, recruiting and training leaders, partnering with parents, and integrating youth into the church community.

Time and focus will be allocated around 80% on youth and families and 20% to other church ministries.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Spiritual Formation:
    Provide spiritual guidance, biblical teaching, and pastoral counseling to youth.
  • Program Development:
    Develop innovative programs for all ages, with a focus on youth, that excite and encourage them to invite others to participate.
  • Discipleship & Leadership:
    Recruit, train, and mentor adult and youth leaders to help lead the ministry and disciple their peers.
  • Parent & Family Engagement:
    Build relationships with parents, equip them to be primary disciple rs, and keep them informed about ministry events and strategies.
  • Community Integration:
    Facilitate the integration of youth into the larger church body, fostering a sense of belonging and encouraging intergenerational connections.
  • Administrative Duties:
    Create and manage the youth ministry budget, develop ministry vision, and ensure adherence to church policies.
Weekly Duties:
  • Be an active presence in local schools, attending games and programs, and scheduling visits to interact with students.
  • Plan summer activities to engage youth when school is on recess.
  • Participate in staff meetings and other church meetings.
  • Maintain social media, the church website, and newsletter with accurate information about upcoming youth activities.
Annual Duties:
  • Create and manage a Youth calendar that drives all ministry activities and keeps volunteers, parents, and youth informed.
  • Choose curriculum for each Student and Children’s Ministry program, coordinating with the Sunday School Director and Children’s Director as needed.
  • Develop and maintain annual budgets for Youth Ministries.
  • Work with the Senior Pastor to select qualified adults for the Youth Council.
Ongoing Duties:
  • Serve on Church Council.
  • Supervise church staff members and volunteers, Children’s Ministry, and Nursery.
  • Assist with hospital visitation and other pastoral duties.
  • Preach in the absence of the senior pastor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
Skills and Requirements:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school or university.
  • A seminary Degree (preferred) or previous full-time ministry experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • A team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and lead volunteer teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Literacy in Microsoft Office and social media.
  • The ability to drive church vans as needed.
Special

Qualifications:
  • A vocational call to Student and Children’s Ministry in a local church setting.
  • An active prayer and devotional life.
  • Church membership will be required upon acceptance of the position.
Work Hours:

20 hours of office and preparation time are required each week, with the remaining time spent engaging youth and children at schools, games, events, or activities, as well as Sunday and Wednesday evening services.

Supervision:

This position reports to the Senior Pastor, with an expectation to establish and maintain a positive working relationship with the Senior Pastor, other staff members, and the church body.
