Police Officer
Performs general or special duty police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Assignment may be as necessitated by department need (ex: CID, Patrol, Training, etc.).

* A career in the Police Department offers a retirement benefit plan with a Hybrid TCRS (TN Consolidated Retirement System) under the BRIDGE benefit. The BRIDGE benefit has a mandatory retirement age of 60, payable from age 60 to 62. It is a temporary benefit supplement to the monthly retirement benefit.

Job Responsibilities include:
- Routine patrol of designated city areas and high-crime zones, including school zones during peak hours.
- Monitoring intersections, traffic lights, and stop signs for violations.
- Focusing on DUI drivers and traffic flow.
- Conducting vacation and business checks.
- Preventing and discovering crimes, apprehending offenders.
- Maintaining a visible presence for community policing and crime deterrence.
- Responding to calls involving emergencies, accidents, crimes, and disturbances.
- Securing crime scenes, conducting investigations, gathering evidence, and making arrests.
- Interviewing witnesses, preparing reports, and court documentation.
- Participating in training, testifying in court, and community activities.
- Providing assistance to motorists and other officers.
- Responding to emergencies and critical incidents.
- Staying informed on laws, policies, and procedures.
- Serving on committees and performing additional duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- No experience required; criminal justice coursework or experience preferred.
- POST certification or equivalent training.
- Valid Tennessee or Virginia driver’s license.
- Must be 21 years of age.
