What You’ll Do:

As the Senior Property Accountant, you will oversee full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for a diverse portfolio of residential, student, commercial, and mixed-use properties. You will play a key role in month-end reporting, financial analysis, arrears management, and providing practical financial support to the Property Management team. The work is varied, but here’s what it looks like day to day:

Portfolio Accounting & Financial Reporting:
  • Perform full-cycle accounting for a diverse portfolio of properties including residential, student, commercial, and mixed-use properties.
  • Lead the month-end close process for an assigned portfolio of properties, including reviewing transactions, completing reconciliations, preparing journal entries, investigating variances, and producing accurate financial statements for property owners.
  • Maintain and reconcile bank accounts, tenant ledgers, and other financial records to verify the accuracy of financial data.
  • Complete financial analysis of property financial statements and provide comments to account managers where necessary.
  • Prepare annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM) reconciliations and recovery calculation
  • Post journal entries as required.
Accounts Receivable & Payable Support:
  • Support accounts receivable and accounts payable processes during peak workloads and absences
  • Review invoices and coding to ensure accuracy.
  • Review tenant accounts, investigate discrepancies, and resolve payment issues.
Property Management & Operational Support:
  • Manage the tenant arrears process including preparing notices, handling tenant communication, and filing Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) applications.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to property managers including preparing and monitoring budget variances, reviewing arrears, and any other applicable information as it pertains to property management operations.
  • Assist with process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and strengthen internal controls.
  • Perform other accounting and administrative duties related to the position as assigned
What We’re Looking For:
  • University degree or college diploma in accounting
  • CPA designation/In Progress is not required, but is considered an asset
  • 2-4 Years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in property management
  • Experience working with accounting and property management software's such as Yardi Voyager and Quick Books Online.
