Job Description
Shape the World Around You – As a Mechanical Layout Designer , you will play a key role in designing and optimizing layout for heavy industrial projects across the subsector. You will collaborate with teams and prepare 3D models, layout arrangements for plant upgrades and new facilities, review drawings and designs, and develop process diagrams, site plans through to detail.
This position will be located in one of our Canadian offices, with preference for Northern Ontario. The Resources subsector delivers end‑to‑end solutions for clients across Canada.
Responsibilities- Prepare 3D models and layout general arrangements for existing plant upgrades and new facilities
- Review vendor drawings to ensure conformity with engineering designs prior to fabrication
- Prepare design calculations and design briefs
- Prepare design sketches
- Conduct trade‑off studies and prepare reports
- Participate in field engineering assignments
- Prepare all design work related to layout general arrangements and equipment model development
- Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure timely and accurate flow of design information while maintaining departmental and client standards
- Maintain and revise equipment libraries, department standards, and procedures
- Attend model reviews
- College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent
- 8+ years experience in mechanical engineering design, specifically with layout design for heavy industrial and/or mining projects
- Strong understanding of mechanical equipment installation requirements in the field
- Must have consulting experience
- Proven experience with Plant3D, Revit, Micro Station, Solid Edge, and Smart Plant
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- French language skills (written and verbal) an asset
- Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude, and a desire to perform design engineering
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to problem solve effectively
- BC, AB, SK, NWT & NU: $77,400 – $102,500
- MB & ON: $70,600 – $97,200
- Atlantic Provinces & QC: $69,900 – $92,900
