Primary DutiesThe Engineering Technologist will prepare designs, plans and cost estimates for electric distribution system projects. As an Engineering Technologist you will be responsible for new customer connections (residential, commercial, and industrial), capital projects, DER and EVSE applications in support of a safe and reliable distribution system and its expansion to meet city load growth and customer needs.
Key Responsibilities- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD and SPIDAcalc. Proficiency with CYME Power Engineering is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical theory, the Utilities Work Protection Code, Construction Verification Program, Electrical Distribution Safety Regulation 22/04, EUSA Rules and various electrical safety Codes and Standards.
- Advanced ability to read, interpret and produce technical electrical and civil engineering drawings.
- Intermediate knowledge of contracts and contract law.
- Intermediate ability to use GPS surveying equipment.
- Intermediate knowledge and application of the Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS) and Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD).
- Intermediate proficiency with Esri GIS, ArcGIS and Arc Map products.
- Intermediate verbal and written communication skills.
- Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements.
- Basic knowledge of Book-7 Traffic Control Guidelines.
- Basic financial/budget management skills.
- Completion of a 3-year Engineering Technology diploma or 4-year Engineering Degree, preferably in the electrical discipline.
- Registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), or a demonstrated plan for acquiring the CET designation within 3 years of hire.
