Position OverviewInspectors in Marine Safety & Security investigate marine vessels, ports, and related facilities to enforce Canadian maritime law and promote safety and environmental protection.
Responsibilities- Conduct inspections of vessels, ports, and related marine facilities.
- Enforce the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 and associated regulations.
- Identify and evaluate risks, recommend corrective actions, and monitor compliance.
- Communicate with industry, government, and the public to foster behavior change and improve safety practices.
- Prepare written reports, presentations, and testimonies to support enforcement actions.
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent combined with a valid Canadian Certificate of Competency as Master, Near Coastal, or higher.
- Five (5) consecutive years of experience in marine ship design, construction, repairs, operation, inspection, quality assurance, technical or operational management of ships, or serving as chief or second engineer.
- Willingness and ability to travel and work overtime on short notice.
- English (essential).
- Degree in nautical or maritime studies.
- Experience as master or chief engineer on vessels.
- Experience with Canada Labour Code Part II or equivalent health and safety legislation.
- Experience in safety management systems, quality assurance programs, or classification surveyor roles.
- Experience with tankers, LNG, transport of dangerous goods, cargo handling, or related operations.
Reliability status and security clearance required. Medical requirements include a valid Health Canada occupational health clearance and a valid Canadian driver’s licence.
